MentMate — the Anonymous Mental Health App (AMHA) — is designed, built, and operated by ebenzotoo. This policy explains what the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have.
Information We Collect
MentMate (AMHA) is designed with anonymity at its core. We collect only what is necessary to provide you with a safe and functional experience:
- An email address used solely for account authentication.
- A system-generated alias — no real name is ever required.
- Your selected community or institution group (e.g., university, profession).
- Usage data such as mood entries, posts, and session activity to personalise your experience.
- Device tokens for delivering push notifications (optional).
- Voice audio, if a rant room host enables recording and you choose to join that room (see "Rant Room Recording" below).
- Video files you personally upload to host a custom watch party — stored temporarily and automatically deleted 12 hours after the party starts, or sooner if you end it.
AI-generated mood insights: when you view mood insights, we send your mood score, selected activities, and the date of each entry to our AI provider to generate a summary. Any free-text notes you write are never sent to the AI provider for this feature.
Rant Room Recording
Some rant rooms may be recorded at the host's discretion. Before joining such a room, you'll see an in-app notice that it may be recorded — entering the room means your voice audio is captured for the session.
Only the host who started the recording can play back, download, or delete it; no one else — including other participants or MentMate staff — has access, except where required by law. Recordings are not automatically deleted; they are retained until the host removes them.
If you'd rather not be recorded, leave the room or don't join when the notice appears.
How We Use Your Information
Your information is used exclusively to:
- Authenticate you securely and maintain your session.
- Display your anonymous alias across the platform.
- Personalise content recommendations within your community.
- Send you optional mental health reminders and notifications.
- Generate anonymised, aggregate analytics to improve the platform.
We do not use your data for advertising or sell it to third parties.
Anonymity & Privacy
Your real identity is never disclosed to other users. Your alias is randomly generated and cannot be traced back to your email or personal details by other users. Even counselors and peer listeners only interact with your alias.
Community posts and rant room participation are always anonymous. Administrators may access content only for moderation purposes in cases of reported harmful content.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties except:
- Service providers (e.g., Supabase for database, Firebase for notifications) who are contractually bound to protect your data.
- Where required by Ghanaian law or a valid court order.
- In aggregated, anonymised form for research or public mental health reporting.
Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (TLS), secure database access controls, and row-level security policies. However, no system is 100% secure — we encourage you not to share personally identifying information in posts or messages.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Request deletion of your account and all associated data. Deleting your account signs you out immediately; your data is then kept for 90 days before permanent removal, giving you a window to change your mind by simply signing back in.
- Opt out of non-essential notifications at any time.
- Report content that violates community guidelines.
To exercise these rights, use the in-app account settings or contact us at the address below.
You can also request account deletion using this form.
